One Houston lake's catch of the day bites back

One nice August 27th day on a lake just south of Houston a little girl named Lindsay Schutte caught a peculiar fish. She was using pieces of hot dogs as bait when all of a sudden there was a bite. This was her very first catch of her life and what did she catch? Lindsay caught a piranha, only the second ever reported piranha caught in Texas history. The first reported instance from Texas waters was in 1982 from the Kendall County Boerne City Reservoir.
The girl's brother was bitten by the piranha when he tried to play with the carnivorous fish.
Park officials believe that the piranha was most likely release by its owner due to either outgrowing its fish tank or getting bored with the fish and people raise them quite often.
In the state of Texas possession of an illegal fish carries a maximum fine of five hundred dollars. Releasing piranhas into the wild is a misdemeanor and repeated offenders are subject to a felony.
